Autumn Smith

 

    Coach Smith is the head varsity coach at Shades Valley High School. In her first season at the

    helm, Smith guided the Lady Mounties to a Jefferson County tournament championship, Area 14

    Championship and a finish in the state’s sweet 16, earning Birmingham Metro Northeast Coach

    of the Year honors in the process.

    Prior to arriving at Shades Valley, Smith spent two years as head JV coach and assistant varsity

    coach at Pelham High School. She led the JV team to a two-year record of 106-16 and helped the

    varsity team reach the state Elite Eight both years.

    Smith also spent three years coaching NASA’s 14- and 17-year-olds and assisted with the 12- and

    13-year-olds team, which finished in the top 25 nationally.

    When not coaching volleyball, Smith, a freshman English teacher at Shades Valley, serves as a

    part-time writer for ESPN affiliate CrimsonConfidential.com, covering the University of Alabama

    football team. She most recently provided coverage on Alabama’s win over Texas in the BCS title

    game in Pasadena in January.
